Holographic Gratings
Holographic gratings are commonly used in applications that are sensitive to stray light. The substrate is coated with photosensitive material. The substrate coated with photosensitive material is placed between the monochromatic light produced by the laser and the intersecting beam composed of coherent beams, which make the photosensitive material sensitize.  The intersecting laser beam produces a series of parallel and equidistant interference fringes, whose intensity varies according to the shape of sinusoidal curve. Since the solubility of photosensitive materials is determined by the light intensity irradiated to them, interference fringes show different light intensity on the surface of photosensitive materials. We can coat a reflective coating on the substrate of holographic grating and use the same process to replicate that used for initial gratings. Because the shape and line spacing of holographic grating are uniform, the stray light is much less than ruled gratings. Usually holographic gratings can adopt profile of two concave grooves, sinusoidal and blazing.

Precautions:
Optical gratings can be easily damaged by moisture, fingerprints, aerosols, or the slightest contact with any abrasive material. Gratings should only be handled when necessary and always held by the sides. Latex gloves or a similar protective covering should be worn to prevent oil from fingers from reaching the grating surface. No attempt should be made to clean a grating other than blowing off dust with clean, dry air or nitrogen. Solvents will likely damage the grating's surface.
