Genre UV~NIR Gratings
The initial step to make an original or master grating is to select the substrate material, usually usin glass or copper. The substrate material is polished to a high flatness and coated with very thin aluminum. The parallelism and equidistance of the grooves takes time to adjust. A few days is required to set up and test before engraving. The engraver must make sure the diamond knife head can return back in a precise way after each engraving and can engrave the substrate based on the quantity on schedule. The parallelism and displacement of the grooves must be precisely controlled. Engraving requires a series of tests. After testing passed, the original grating can be carved on a large substrate. The original grating is very expensive, so the grating can only be used limited until the replica grating is developed.
